Mary Lindsey

Mary Kate Donald Lindsey was born May 20, 1932 in Sumpter County, Alabama. She was the oldest girl of the six children of Annie Lee Drake Donald and Michael Joe Donald.

She graduated from Kinterbish High School in Cuba, Alabama in 1950 and was valedictorian of her class. She played basketball and the team won the state championship during her senior year. After high school, she attended cosmetology school. In addition, she taught kindergarten in York, Alabama. After moving to Cleveland, she continued as a cosmetologist and worked in the radiology department at Metro Hospital. After retirement, she devoted her life to caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In doing such, she installed love of family and discipline.

Mary transitioned peacefully on December 13, 2021. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Ruby Lindsey Black, James Lindsey, Jr., Joe Lindsey, Faye Lindsey Tamplin, Al Kirk Lindsey, Ann Lindsey Wheeler, and Sandra Lindsey Banks; 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Joe and Annie Donald) and siblings, Joe West Donald, Albert Landy Donald, Julia Ella Donald Johnson, Jessie Lee Donald Merritt and Willie Louis Donald; one grandson, Damon Antwane Wheeler.
